i am going on a road trip across the country at the end of the month and i would like for my friends to make mix CDs for me to keep me company along the way! i have over 3,000 miles to drive and i'm sure i'll get tired of my own music. so i want something to remind of people i will probably not see for a while.

if you think you can help me out with this music dilemma, send me a message and i'll let you know what address you can send things to.

GIGANTIC, a big big love

tiff

Supreme Court Resignation!!! PLEASE ACT

Sign HERE:

http://www.ppaction.org/campaign/resignation2?rk=DpLd_HF1TR7_W

Then read HERE:

Hello everyone!

BIG NEWS: Sandra Day OConnor resigned today
from the Supreme Court. Though not solidly pro-
choice, she has supported a womans right to
choose (with limitations) and is one of our swing
votes regarding Roe v. Wade. Losing her is
unexpected and has major consequences for
womens rights, as the Bush Administration will
most surely try to appoint someone anti-choice in
an attempt to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Below is an article about the resignation from the
Planned Parenthood website. In this extremely
important moment, I ask you to PLEASE take
action: go to www.plannedparenthood.org and
follow the links to Take Action at the top.
PLEASE- contact your local Senators. PLEASE-
forward this to people you know. Please. We are
on the cusp of a crucial moment in history- if you
need to be convinced of that let me know and I
would be more than willing to explain!!

Thank you so much for all you do.

In Solidarity,

natasha
_________________________________________

natasha keller
Community Outreach Educator
Planned Parenthood of the Southern Finger Lakes
314 W. State St.
Ithaca, NY 14850
607-216-0021 x136

O'Connor Resignation Creates Ominous Court
Vacancy
July 1, 2005
CONTACT: Erin Libit, (202) 973-4883

WASHINGTON, DC The retirement of U.S.
Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor
dramatically changes the court's composition by
removing a crucial moderate voice that has often
been at the heart of protecting women's health and
rights. With the stakes high, Planned Parenthood
Federation of America (PPFA), the nation's leading
reproductive health care advocate and provider, is
marshalling its grassroots activists and lobbying
presence in all 50 states to sound a call to arms in
defense of reproductive rights. These grassroots
activists will stage events nationwide to draw
attention to the critical significance of this court
vacancy.

"The resignation of Justice O'Connor creates a
devastating and dangerous moment for
reproductive health care and women's rights," said
PPFA Interim President Karen Pearl. "Her
departure places women's health at risk,
endangering the future of reproductive rights in this
nation. With so much at stake, Planned
Parenthood will be on the frontlines of the Supreme
Court battles to ensure women's health is
protected."

The Supreme Court's recent decision to hear
Ayotte v. Planned Parenthood spotlights the
urgency of the threat to reproductive freedom. This
high-stakes case could undermine both the
primacy of a woman's health as a limitation on
states' zeal to curb access to abortion, and the
ability of organizations like Planned Parenthood to
challenge those restrictions on access. Only five
years ago, Justice O'Connor was critical to
maintaining access to abortion in the 5-4 decision
issued in Stenberg v. Carhart. When the court
hears Ayotte v. Planned Parenthood later this
year, the outcome with a new Justice could
drastically affect women's health and safety.

"Nothing will have a greater impact on protecting
the health and safety of women than appointments
to the Supreme Court," said Pearl. "Planned
Parenthood, as the largest provider of reproductive
health care in this country, knows this firsthand.
Our own case Ayotte v. Planned Parenthood, to be
heard later this year, will determine whether the
high court and the nation feel that the health and
safety of women are worth preserving.

"A lifetime appointment requires a confirmation
process that is nothing less than thoughtful,
intelligent, and fully deliberated," said
Pearl. "Americans deserve Supreme Court
Justices who they know will protect their health
and safety."

things have started looking up since my last dreary entry.

+ my friends started a "fans and stalkers of tiffany martinez" group on myspace
+ last night we blew off duty for an hour and went to the beach and played on the swings when it was about 20 degrees outside.
+ i stayed up until 4a.m. watching PeeWee's Playhouse on DVD
+ got 7 full guiltless hours of sleep
+ had lunch with 2 FABULOUS people. they both make me so happy, and one of them i discovered at the beginning of the week. he is best friends with my former roommate of the writing and thinking workshop and both of them are 2 of the most uplifting and unique people you could ever hope to meet. he wears a fedora, watches ghostbuster cartoons, supports my idea that we should bring back a secret word of the day (like in peewee's playhouse), and plays the air guitar while standing on his chair in the middle of the cafeteria.
+ on my way out of the caf, i randomly said something to a group of kids standing on the stairs and as i was walking away, this girl was like, "can i ask you a question? do you know someone whose sister is named hannah?" OMG! i knew this girl, emily, in high school. So it turns out this cool girl (named diane) also did the WTW!! she said "i recognized you and have been wanting to talk with you all year. are you a senior? grrrr! i wish i had talked with you sooner."
we made plans to soon hang out.

- i was riding my bike back to north campus and the chain came off the gear and i crashed my bike. did everyone in the caf see? probably? do i care? not really. i fixed the gear and kept riding. once i was back on north i realized that my handle bars and front wheel are crooked/bent/not what they should be. does somebody want to come and fix it for me? there is no way in hell i am going back to working bikes. those guys were assholes.
i am probably moving to stl for the summer. so not only does that mean i will get to hang out with good people, it also means i will need to fix my bike cause i don't have a car. seriously, i will give you my soul if you teach my how to fix my bike.

so aside from the little bike fiasco, things are definitely getting better.

on the agenda for the rest of the day: probably chicago or evanston for some off campus reading and a coffeehouse concert tonight at Uncommon Ground. i have never seen this woman before but she's on the same label as ellis so it'll probably be good.

wow. this trip to austin is not off to a great start. only once i was on the plane and up in the air did i realize that my CD wallet was MIA. "maybe i put it in my other bag" i thought. when i got off the plane and checked my bag my CD wallet with all of my favorite CDs was nowhere to be found. and i had put all my favorite music in there for the trip so i was stuck listening to the only ellis CD i have left which is a good one, but there are so many times i can listen to "begin again" before i wish i had a little neutral milk hotel. *sigh* i'm at the austin library right now revising a paper and researcg public transit so i can meet up with USAS folks and tonight BECKY gets in.
when i was on my way to go watch buffy in lois for a study break, a really crappy thing happened. wanna hear about it? cool.

my ankle buckled and twisted somehow in the lois parking lot and went "POP!" just like that.

POP!

i basically had to hop on one leg to lois and have jess bring down a bandage and crutches for me. it took me forever to get back to CL. and probably even longer to get up the stairs to my room. my residents have been helping me out though. i can't put any weight on my ankle.

i never realized before how big of a problem i have with letting people help me. anyway, after i got back into my room i ended up almost flat on my face because one of my crutches ended up on a reslife flier i tossed on my floor and it slipped. awesome.

i hate being like this.

i had a job interview this morning with the organizing institute that went fairly well and i am going to a 3 day training next weekend.
i was reminded how the bitter cold of chicago sucks when the only think i could think about during the first 10 minutes of my interview was, "wow. i hope my nipples aren't still poking through my shirt."

things went well at the office on monday, there is still a lot of work to be done.

i have a radio show on thursdays from 12-2, if you want to check it out you can visit www.lfcradio.com

i need to get some new music. does anyone want to make me a mix tape or CD? (PLEASE say you will)

since becoming vegan i have tried to work with aramark to get soy yogurt and whatnot so will have more things to eat in the cafeteria besides salads and vegetable wraps. they were supposed to get the stuff at least a week ago and tonight i waited in line for 10 minutes to find out that the things didn't come in, they don't know when they are going to come in, and i can't buy this stuff and get reimbursed. WHAT ELSE AM I SUPPOSED TO EAT? that pissed me off. i am finding a way to get off that stupid meal plan.

then on my walk back to the table i saw this big ol' sign about auditions for the vagina monologues. i didn't know about this AND I AM ONE OF THE ORGANIZERS! WTF?

my "problems" really aren't that big but they really pissed me off tonight. okay, that's all i have to say.

that and send me mix tapes or CDs.

wow. i am at an internet cafe on bleeker st. in NYC and i just have to say that despite how much i wish some of you were here with me, i am still having a fucking awesome time being away from the college of the forest by the lake. sooooo much has happened here. i have been sleeping in, i learned how to successfully navigate the subway system while managing not to get lost more than twice.
my first day i slept in and went to brunch with my friend matt and his gf. after that i went to a bookstore and got one of those touristy "navigate your way around NY" books. then i went to a dyke knitting circle for a couple of hours and on my way home i just walked around union square for a while and got "waking life" for $7. score.
yesterday i went back down to the lower east side to bluestockings. this independent radical feminist bookstore where the knitting circle was held the night before. i was thinking of you, becky and cathy!
i also went to toys in babeland and a couple of other cool stores and went broke. last night i went to a bar with matt, sarah, and fraser. matt and sarah went home early so fraser and i went to a tiki bar that ended up having a burlesque show. new york, i think i love you.

on a not so good note, an prof emailed me about a paper that i turned in for a final assignment that was supposed to be 12-15 pages. i turned in 6. it shouldn't really matter what the length is as long as the content is superb, right? apparently not for this dude. so he gave me an incomplete. at least he is giving me the chance to write 6 more pages once the semester starts up.

details. details.

anyway, i still have a lot of NY to explore and only 1 more day to do it. after that i am heading up to the ass-crack-of-nowher-poughkeepsie to surprise my mom for xmas. then st louis to hang out with some of the most awesome people on the face of the planet. have to go. chinatown awaits.

DEFEND THE RIGHT TO QUALITY EDUCATION---SUPPORT THE NEIU FACULTY

Students for Faculty Rights at Northeastern Illinois University has called for a mass solidarity rally Tuesday, December 7 at 4pm at the Thompson Center/State of Illinois Building(100 W. Randolph).

It is time that we take this struggle to the "education" governor and demand that he fund education in Illinois. Everyone who is concerned with the struggle for quality education join us at the rally and show support and solidarity with the striking faculty.

The administration has tried its best to blame faculty, staff, and even students for this strike. But, the facts are clear. The administration has the ability (a very well paid attorney and plenty of room in the budget) to settle this strike. They will settle it as soon as they realize that they can not break our spirits, our lines, or our solidarity. Let's show them that they must settle this contract and that they must do it quickly.

Northeastern Illinois University faculty have been on strike since November 19 demanding a fair contract. Over the past three years faculty have received only $1,250 in raises and now the best the administration can offer is less than 2%. In addition, the administration would like to pack a minimum of 45 students into every class, force faculty who already work on average 59.5 hours per week to increase our teaching loads by 25 percent, and push salaries--which are already the lowest of all state universities in Illinois--even further behind. These demands neglect the students, staff, and faculty at NEIU and maintain administrative excesses. The union is circulating the budget realities, calling for a reallocation of funding to support instruction, rather than administration.
